North Popley Development: A Sustainable Urban Extension To Basingstoke
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The combined development proposals for the three sites in North Popley were granted outline planning permission in the summer of 2004, subject to Section 106 agreements to cover the provision of affordable housing, community infrastructure, transport infrastructure and education facilities.

Over the next five to ten years the development of the housing sites will provide a sustainable urban extension to Basingstoke of approximately 2100 dwellings, including the provision of a mix of both market and affordable housing, a new community school, new community facilities, neighbourhood centre, land for employment and sports, leisure and amenity open space.

Documents are available for viewing at Basingstoke and Dean Borough Council. Please contact Robert Thain, 01256 854532 or e-mail r.thain@basingstoke.gov.uk.

The housing sites at North Popley and Popley Fields (Marnel Park) were first allocated in the Adopted Local Plan 1998. The allocation of these sites and the existing John Hunt of Everest site were confirmed in the Local Plan Review (2003) and are included in the North of Popley Way Development Brief (2001). They form a significant part of the development proposals outlined in the North Basingstoke Action Plan (2003).
